#1884. We revive the Konzerthaus Stettin

The pre-war Konzerthaus – a place where art and social life flourished for decades – will gain new life thanks to advanced 3D mapping techniques and the use of archival photos. The #1884 project aims to bring closer the common Polish-German heritage of the region, engaging not only the residents of Szczecin, but also guests from the German part of the Pomerania Euroregion.

The focal point of the undertaking will be a multimedia 3D mapping show by Szczecin Pushka Studio, which will revive the history of the Konzerthaus using, among others, archival materials from the National Museum in Szczecin. We will see the moment of its creation and the times of prosperity, when it was the cultural and entertainment center of the city – with concert halls, a winery and a garden at the back of the building – through destruction during World War II, up to the present day and the continuation of the musical tradition of the place by the modern Philharmonic.

Mapping shows in the Philharmonic hall will take place four times – 23, 24, 25 and 27 October 2024 – and three times they will be preceded by historical "walks" around the Konzerthaus, during which the guide Joanna Olszowska will talk about the fascinating past of the building, which witnessed the most important cultural events of pre-war Szczecin. The "walks" with Olszowska will be translated into German – we also invite guests from Germany.

Music lovers can also look forward to two symphonic concerts, 25 and 27 October 2024, which will be a reconstruction of the historic inaugural concert of October 18, 1884, during which Joseph Haydn's monumental oratorio "The Creation" was performed.

These will be events that are not only musical, but also highly symbolic. Although the shape of the modern Philharmonic in Szczecin is synonymous with modernity and the future, its foundations reach deep into history, making it the heir and continuator of the musical traditions of our city. The musical heart of Szczecin has been beating right here for 140 years: at Małopolska 48.

The #1884 project is more than just an artistic event – it is an opportunity to reflect on the history and identity of the region and a nod to contemporary residents who can rediscover the heritage of their ancestors.
