The medieval Benedictine Hildegard from Bingen, Francesca Caccini from Baroque, and Maria Szymanowska, outstanding writers from the beginning of the 19th century, along with two contemporary French writers, Germaine Tailleferre and Nadia Boulanger – the history of women composing classical music is really short, yet an important place is reserved for Grażyna Bacewicz.
She used her great skill, mastered during years of learning at music schools in Warsaw and Paris, when writing a variety compositions that can be labelled neoclassical. Bacewicz, an educated and performing violinist, focussed greatly on violin music and music for other bow instruments. These pieces by the Polish composer for violin and piano, as well as by Claude Debussy and Franz Schubert, will be presented by the Szczecin Philharmonic chamber musicians in a masterly concert.
