This concert will be quite intimate, not just because of the venue. Here in the Chamber Hall of the Philharmonic the loudest instrument of the orchestra will sound nine times! These trombone artists studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. They have received a lot of prizes in both solo and ensemble competitions. They work in Trombone Unit Hannover, and each of them plays every day in renowned German orchestras.
The establishment of a trombone octet, as the musicians acknowledge, was a natural consequence of systematic work in chamber ensembles. This particular area of musical activity was emphasized at the Hanoverian school. Fascination with chamber music was instilled in them by Professor Jonas Bylund. So first there was the quartet, then the sextet, and today the octet and the nonet. The repertoire of the ensemble is surprising. They present thematic programs. And so it is that the theme of the concert is film music ("Movie Stars"), "songs and dances" (Bruckner, Debussy, Argentinian tango!) and "War and Peace."
