Ellen Ruge - Lighting Designer (Stockholm)
Ellen Ruge is born in Oslo, Norway 1960, has been living in Stockholm since 1982, and has created light for a great number of stage productions, both in Opera, dance and drama.
She has been working for many years with the same directors and choreographers for instance:
With Choreographer Mats Ek at Opera Garnier- Paris, Bayerische Staatballet, The Hamburg-ballett, The Grand Theatre National Opera i Warshaw, Deutcher Oper am Rein- Dusseldorf, Nederlands dans theater – Den Haag, Teatro del Argentina – Rome , Ballet Ramberg, UK and the Cullberg-ballet, SE,
She has worked at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) New York,2006 and created light for Opera and drama in NCPA Beijing and Shanghai, China. 2014, 2016.
At Alla Scala in Milano she has done The Turn of the Screw in 2016.
At the Royal opera house in Stockholm, she has worked with Il Nozze di figaro, Cosi van tutti, The magic flute, The fiery angel, die lustige Witve, Il Trovatore, Rigoletto, Il Ballo del mascera, and Swanlake.
At Deutches Oper in Berlin she has worked with Carmen 2015 Wozzeck 2018 and Classical ballet, La Sylfide. 2019.
At the Norwegian Opera house, she has done Poppea coronation, Ulysses ritorno in Patria, Lady Macbeth of Mzensk, Magic Flute, Cosi van Tutte, Rigoletto, Hansel and Gretel.
This spring she did Don Giovanni at Narodny Divaldo, Praha. And is currently working with a new opera written by Philip Glass , Circus Days and Nights that shall open in 29 of May 4, 2021
She also works with public light art works commissioned by the Swedish government.
Ellen is connected to The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm as a senior light designer, and she has been granted several awards, such as:
HEDDA – price for best light design 2009 in Norway
The price for best light design 2017 by the Swedish Light designer’s association
His Majesty the KING of Swedens gold medal with blue ribbon for her work in 2019
The Swedish award for best public art work in Stockholm 2019
The Swedish theatre critics grand theatre price for her work 2020
